None of the column parts have footprints. They are intended to be placed directly on to the walls.
Occasionally the game appears to register some of the pieces as indoors, so they show up dark. This probably is due to the fact that the pieces penetrate the wall in order to encase the wall.
I suggest using maloverci's Blue Glass Fence inside of the column with the window so you can see through them:
