When modern and the new century came, everything wood was deemed as ancient, antique, rustic. It was the embarrassing heirloom, the thrift thing bought because one couldn't really afford the new all-glass table or half-metallic-industrial dining table that was raging at the time.
Some designers still continued to work with wood. Because, wood. And they were right! Those tables are available in 2 tiles or 3 tiles long and are modern yet in wood! A simple design of planks held together by smaller pieces of wood.
